Common questions.
A few of the things people often want to know before getting started. If your question isn’t here, feel free to reach out.
How long does therapy take?
It really depends — my work tends to address both immediate symptom relief and the patterns underneath, so I don’t offer brief, time-limited treatment on a fixed schedule. That said, this doesn’t mean therapy stretches on for years; most people begin to feel meaningful relief well before the rest of the work is finished.
How long the overall process takes varies from person to person, depending on what you’re working through and what your goals are, as well as how consistently you apply the strategies we discuss between sessions — since much of the change happens in everyday life, not just in the room. If you’re specifically looking for short-term, structured treatment with a set endpoint, I may not be the best fit, but I’m always happy to talk that through on a first call.
Do you take insurance?
I don’t accept insurance directly, as most specialists don’t. However, many clients are able to receive partial reimbursement through their plan’s out-of-network benefits. I’m happy to provide the paperwork you’ll need — such as a superbill — to submit an out-of-network claim. You can find more detail on my Services & Fees page.
How much are sessions?
Sessions are $195 for a 50-minute session. You can read more on my Services & Fees page.
Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
Both. I see clients in person at my office in Denver, Colorado, and offer telehealth (virtual) sessions for clients located in PsyPact-participating states.
What states can you see clients in via telehealth?
As a PsyPact provider, I can offer telehealth to clients located in any PsyPact-participating state. You can view the current list of participating states on the official PsyPact map. If you’re not sure whether your state is included, just reach out and I can let you know.
How often will we meet?
I typically recommend starting with weekly or every-other-week sessions to build momentum and begin finding relief. As you start to feel better and need less support, many clients move to monthly or as-needed sessions. Some clients also choose to continue meeting regularly over the longer term — turning to goals that felt less pressing at the start once their initial concerns have been addressed.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is essentially an informal conversation. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, a bit of your history, your past and present symptoms, and your goals for treatment — and we’ll start getting to know each other and building rapport. There’s nothing too formal or structured about it; it’s really just the beginning of the work. By the end, we’ll usually agree together on what feels most important to focus on first.
Do you prescribe medication?
No — as a psychologist, I don’t prescribe medication. If medication seems like it could be helpful, I’m glad to coordinate with your prescriber or offer referrals to trusted providers.
What’s your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee, as I’m typically unable to fill the time slot on short notice.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential and protected by law. There are a few standard exceptions where I’m legally or ethically required to act — for example, if there’s a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, if there’s suspected abuse or neglect of a child, older adult, or other vulnerable person, or if I’m required to disclose information by a court order. I’ll go over confidentiality and its limits with you at the start of our work, and I’m always happy to answer questions about it.
Who do you work with?
I provide individual therapy for adults working through anxiety, OCD, and trauma.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. You can reach out by phone or email through my contact page. We’ll begin with a brief, free phone call so I can hear a bit about what’s bringing you in and answer any questions, and from there we’ll find a time for your first session.
